Overview

Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the skin, nails, hair and its diseases. It is a specialty with both medical and surgical aspects.  A dermatologist treats diseases, in the widest sense, and some cosmetic problems of the skin, scalp, hair, and nails. Skin diseases are quite prevalent in the community and a large number of patients attending to any hospital OPD come with the complaints related to skin diseases. Most skin diseases can be easily diagnosed and managed with adequate amount of training at the MBBS level. The aim of the training is to train the students to diagnose and manage common skin diseases. Students have the clinical teaching and demonstrations of all the common skin diseases sexually transmitted diseases, leprosy and common skin emergencies during their training period.

Facilities

The objective is to train the medical students to be able to provide quality care to patients of STDs and Dermatological illnesses. The attached teaching hospital is fully equipped with diagnostic & therapeutic facilities to provide an excellent academic & clinical environment to medical students. Patients with Leprosy, sexually transmitted diseases & various dermatological conditions are treated regularly on OPD and Indoor basis. Minor surgical and cosmetic procedures are performed regularly in the department.
